What is the End of Days? Could it be that we are living in it now, or are all the tribulations we currently see in the world only an opening act of sorts before the main band begins? It would be simple to abandon all hope, succumb to depression and simply wait for the next terrible thing to occur. However, there is still a chance that the End of Days may be a survivable occurrence, and you owe it to yourself and your family to make every effort to do so. Adopting the mindset for survival Apocalypse requires may not be easy, but it can be done. Here’s how.
- Anticipate the worst.
Survival Apocalypse style mandates that you consider all possible scenarios. Will you have access to power, water, gasoline, communication and ready sources of food, or will you be forced to fend for yourself? Are you prepared in case of a chemical attack, foul weather, armed incursion or marauders? Are you positioned to protect your family, if need be? Consider the geography, climate and flora and fauna in the area you live in. Do you know what is edible, what is not, and what might require special preparation?
- Educate yourself.
The key to survival Apocalypse requires, as the saying goes, is power. How does one achieve power when conventional social paradigms have fallen utterly apart? The answer is knowledge. Understanding what you have available, what you may need to further improve your odds of survival and the things you may have to do to get these things is powerful beyond measure when the only scorecard that matters is whether you and your loved ones make it through the day or not. This includes understanding your environment closely and being aware of what bounties and hazards it holds, as well as how best to avail yourself of the former and avoid the latter.
- Be prepared.
The Prime Directive of survival Apocalypse planners recite is this old Boy Scout motto. Do you have food, shelter, a supply of emergency vehicle fuel, a safe fallback location, a reliable supply of water and access to more if you need it? What about weapons such as guns and knives? Do you have the knowledge and wherewithal to craft other weapons as needed, both for hunting and defense? Are you stocked with adequate clothing and miscellaneous personal items?
- Know your limits.
While survival Apocalypse style may require very difficult things of you and your loved ones, you have to be aware of your physical and mental limits. Keeping a supply of medication such as painkillers and antibiotics, asthma inhalers, diabetic necessities and even feminine hygiene products can make a big difference in your odds of survival. Mentally and emotionally, are you prepared to kill if you must in order to survive, whether what you are killing is an animal or a human being? Do you know enough about anatomy to make your kills count and fend off starvation, or prevent a scout from reporting back about your position?
- Keep a positive mental attitude.
Positive mental attitude is the core of all survival Apocalypse concepts, and this cannot be stated enough. You must always look like you know what you’re doing, even if you don’t have a clue. Your family and loved ones are relying on you, your knowledge, your skills and your ruthlessness to keep yourself and them alive. However, if you cannot stay positive and truly believe your loved ones can get to the other side of the End of Days, all the skill in the world won’t matter.
