How often does your power run out and you need to make bread? Bread has increasingly become an important part of our daily diet. Yet, we always do not have power. Mother Nature or terrorists may strike. However, it is nice to know you can still make your bread without power. Also for all those who like to hit the woods and camp, this section will teach you how to make bread when there is no power as deep within the woods, bread is a warm, filling commodity.
All you need is a source of heat to make your bread be it a fireplace, camp stove or barbeque grill. Take a look at the steps below to make your perfect bread without the need of an oven and power:
- FRYING IT
Have you seen those juicy, glazed donuts? They are fried. You can simply do that with any dough too. Simply mix the dough as instructed and then fry it and let it rise. Pat or roll the dough on a plain counter till it is half-inch thick and slick it into wedges and separate them. Fry them again until well risen and twice as thick. Heat oil in a spate pan and dip the dough pieces into the hot oil two to three times. Once the side appears to be brown, turn over the dough and take it out on dry paper towels.
- BOILING IT
Bagels are made up of bread that are first boiled then baked. Form your dough into the shape of a bagel and let it rise. While the dough is rising, place a pot of water on heat for boiling. Once the dough has gone twice its size, slip the bagels carefully into the boiling water. When the bagels seem to be firm, take them out and let them dry.
- BAKING IT
It’s true that you can bake even without an oven too. All that is needed is just the heating from above and below. You can accomplish this with outdoor grills too with cover lids or can simply use a bucket and place it over the bread that is getting baked. Remember when baking the bed on an outdoor grill; place something under the bread pan, for example, a brick. It is okay if you do not have an outdoor grill, you can make your oven makeshift oven by putting the pan on some warm coals and then covering the pan from top and stacking some warm coals on the top too. VOILA! Your beautifully risen bread is prepared!
As you can see, with a little knowledge and few tips, you can make your bread without power in many ways. Even without the oven! We hope that the next time you go on a camping trip; you can make your own bread that can be used as an emergency! Good Luck!
